Macron revealed that the primary goal of his recent meeting with President Donald Trump in New York was to secure a deal that would restore transit through the strait. He noted that the Iranian regime realized early in the war that it held a significant leverage card by controlling the vital shipping lane.
When asked if the U.S. had overlooked this risk, the French president declined to assign blame but emphasized the United States’ unique capacity to resolve the crisis. “I think the U.S. is the one able to fix this issue, and we need you,” Macron said, adding, “The situation with the strait was probably underestimated, and today we have to fix this issue.”
