Lidl has overtaken Morrisons to become the fifth-largest supermarket chain in Great Britain, driven by a robust 10% increase in annual sales that surpassed £13bn. The German-owned retailer reported a significant 30% growth in pre-tax profits for its British division, reaching £245.5m for the financial year ending in February, up from £156.8m the prior year. This market shift was largely attributed to consumers seeking more affordable options for fresh produce and meats, alongside strong demand for the chain’s premium Deluxe product range.
Lidl Surpasses Morrisons to Become Britain’s Fifth-Largest Grocer as Sales Surge
Another ten percent jump sounds huge, but is the profit increase really that sustainable with such aggressive discounting?
Is this because of the price cuts or just the Deluxe range? I shop there mainly for the cheaper basics.
Morrisons really let it slip. Tough to watch them fade while Lidl keeps growing like this year after year.
I never thought I’d say this, but Lidl quality is actually impressive these days. The Deluxe range is a game changer.
