Republican candidate Zach Lahn and Democratic contender Rob Sand engaged in a heated exchange during the first televised debate for Iowa governor, as they compete to succeed retiring Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds. The hour-long debate, hosted by KWQC and held at St. Ambrose University, featured sharp accusations of carpetbagging, disputes over family wealth, and culture war disagreements.
The contest between Lahn and Sand marks the opening phase of a highly anticipated race for the governor’s office, with both candidates eager to establish their positions ahead of next month’s election. The debate provided voters their first comprehensive look at how each candidate addresses key issues dividing the state.
