Labour Projected Largest Party in Hung Parliament, Poll Shows

A recent YouGov model and projection poll (MRP) has indicated that the Labour Party would likely secure the position of the largest party in a hung parliament were a general election to take place tomorrow. The poll data provides a momentary reprieve for Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, though it also highlights significant challenges ahead.

According to the central estimates from the poll, Labour would win 241 seats. This represents a net loss of 170 seats compared to their majority in the 2024 election. However, the figures mark a substantial improvement from the previous year’s MRP, which had projected a dramatic decline for the party, forecasting only 144 seats and suggesting that Reform UK was on the verge of securing a majority.

The results also show Reform UK in a tight contest with the Conservative Party, described as being “neck-and-neck.” This polling landscape comes at a pivotal time for UK politics, with Metro Mayor Andy Burnham and Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch both preparing for their respective party conferences in the coming weeks.
