La Oreja de Van Gogh Catalog to Anchor Major Romantic Musical ‘Puedes Contar Conmigo’

The extensive discography of La Oreja de Van Gogh is set to drive the narrative of an ambitious romantic musical titled “Puedes Contar Conmigo.” The project marks the first major film announcement from producer Domingo Corral and joins forces with director Fernando González Molina and a team of prominent Spanish producers.

González Molina, known for directing the blockbuster “Palm Trees in the Snow,” will helm the production. Joining him are veteran producers Beltrán Cortázar, Domingo Corral, and Gonzalo Sálazar-Simpson, with La Oreja de Van Gogh serving as executive producers. The collaboration has been tipped as one of the most significant upcoming releases from Spain.

“Seeing that our songs will gain a new life in cinema is a dream for us,” the band stated. The announcement follows the group’s highly successful 2026 comeback tour, which featured original lead vocalist Amaia Montero. The tour included over 100 concerts across Spain, selling more than 400,000 tickets and reinforcing the band’s cross-generational appeal. The group holds over 50 Platinum and Gold certifications.

“We’re at a beautiful moment at our career, feeling the affection of many, many people and we believe ‘Puedes Contar Conmigo’ will be a marvellous celebration of what unites us with our audience,” the band added.

González Molina brings a track record of audience success with romantic dramas. His previous hits include “Three Steps Above Heaven” (2010), which grossed €9.9 million, “I Want You” (2012), earning €12.1 million, and the period piece “Palm Trees in the Snow” (2016), which grossed €17.1 million at the Spanish box office.

Details regarding the plot remain under wraps, but the screenplay is being written by González Molina and Miguel López Martínez. The film is based on an original story that incorporates the band’s lyrics. La Oreja de Van Gogh, formed in 1996, offers a rich catalog of emotionally resonant tracks, including hits like “Los Rosas,” “La Playa,” “Jueves,” and “El último vals,” which explore themes of nostalgia, fate, and romance.

“Translating the universe of the Oreja into an original story is a giant challenge for me,” González Molina said. “It’s also fulfilling a dream of updating big romantic musicals, which I have always loved, with the codes of contemporary cinema. With this film I’d love to make a cinema event that moves audiences like the songs of La Oreja de Van Gogh have done for decades.”

The producing team brings considerable industry weight. Cortázar previously served as CEO of Suma Content, where he oversaw projects such as the series “La Mesías.” Sálazar-Simpson, founder of Lazona, produced the Goya Best Picture winner “No Rest for the Wicked” and two of the highest-grossing Spanish films in history: “Spanish Affair” and its sequel. Corral, formerly the head of Fiction and Entertainment at Movistar Plus, cited “La La Land” as a key reference for the project.

“As producers, we want to make a film that is different and unique and at the level of ambition which merit La Oreja de Van Gogh and their songs,” Corral said. “Many are part of our emotional history across several generations and they have an enormous fan base in Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic. We are convinced that his vision and passion will deliver a great film full of unforgettable emotional moments.”

  1. 400k tickets sold shows their massive fanbase. This will definitely be a hit with the Hispanic community.

  2. Love the band’s discography, but can they translate those songs into a cohesive plot? I’m skeptical.
