Khan alleged that the local authority is disregarding public feedback regarding its updated licensing policy. According to data from the consultation, 81% of respondents opposed the implementation of a “cumulative impact zone” in the West End, one of Europe’s most renowned nightlife hubs. This designation mandates that licensing applications for new venues be rejected unless exceptional circumstances are demonstrated.
Furthermore, the survey revealed that 84% of participants believed the proposed licensing framework would have a detrimental effect on local businesses. Despite these findings, the council has proceeded with the restrictions, drawing the mayor’s ire.
