A fugitive property developer with ties to Lebanon has become the center of controversy after delivering an expletive-laden tirade during a New South Wales anti-corruption commission hearing. Jean Nassif, 58, appeared via video link from his bedroom in Beirut on Tuesday, telling the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) that he cannot be silenced.
During his appearance, Nassif waved handwritten notes at Peggy Dwyer, counsel assisting the inquiry, and staunchly maintained his innocence regarding corruption allegations. He ranted about politicians he described as dishonest before asserting that no authority could force him to remain quiet.
The incident adds to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Nassif, who remains at large while the ICAC continues its investigation into alleged corrupt conduct within the state’s property and political sectors.
