Southampton claimed an early advantage in their Southern derby against Portsmouth on Sunday, October 11, 2026. James Bree opened the scoring for the Saints in the 20th minute, giving his side a 1-0 lead at the St Mary’s Stadium venue.
The match, part of a day of Premier League and lower-division action that also featured Crystal Palace versus Nottingham Forest and Hull City hosting Everton, saw Bree’s goal prove to be the decisive moment in the early stages of the contest.
Wait, the headline says second minute but the article says twentieth? A bit confusing with the discrepancy there.
That early goal must have silenced the Portsmouth fans instantly. Saints look strong today.
