At least seven Palestinians have been killed and more than 10 others wounded in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, underscoring persistent violations of a ceasefire that has endured for nearly a year.
According to witnesses and medical sources, six individuals died when an Israeli drone struck a passenger van in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood of southwest Gaza City on Wednesday. The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that emergency crews transported 13 injured people to al-Quds Hospital, where medical sources described the injuries as critical.
Hind Khoudary, reporting from Gaza City, noted that the local health system has been severely degraded by years of conflict and blockade, making it difficult to save the wounded. She warned that the death toll from the van strike could rise in the coming hours.
In separate incidents, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that an Israeli attack on a residential apartment near al-Shifa Hospital killed at least one woman. Additionally, four Palestinians, including two children, were injured when a drone hit a shelter for displaced persons in southern Gaza. Two others were seriously wounded by Israeli forces southeast of Deir el-Balah, and tank fire was reported in southern Khan Younis.
The Gaza Ministry of Health stated in its latest daily update that the bodies of nine people arrived at hospitals within the previous 24 hours. This brings the total number of fatalities since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began in October of last year to at least 1,431. During the same period, 5,026 people have been wounded, including 31 in the last day.
Khoudary described the ongoing violence as endless, stating that the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate and that residents live in fear of basic activities such as shopping or sending children to school.
Since the war began in October 2023, health officials report that at least 74,032 Palestinians have been killed and 175,142 wounded. A United Nations Satellite Centre analysis conducted in August revealed that destroyed structures in Gaza have increased by 9 percent since the ceasefire took effect. Approximately 82 percent of the Strip’s buildings, totaling roughly 200,000 structures, have been damaged, with about two-thirds of those completely destroyed.
I wonder if the international community is truly doing enough to enforce the ceasefire terms, or if this is just going to continue indefinitely without consequences.
Does anyone actually believe this violence will stop soon? It feels like we are just waiting for the next escalation rather than seeing real progress.
