Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday that its navy intercepted and captured a United States-operated autonomous surface vehicle in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. The incident marks the latest escalation in regional maritime tensions.
According to the IRGC, the vessel targeted was a distinctive “sail drone” resembling a small sailing boat. Iranian military officials stated that the operation successfully thwarted what they characterized as an aggressive mission conducted by the unmanned craft at the entrance of the strategic waterway.
The claim regarding the capture of the drone has been disseminated through Iranian state media and social networks. However, as of publication, no comment has been issued by US authorities or the Department of Defense regarding the incident.
