India’s women’s cricket team has made headlines for skipping the trophy presentation ceremony after defeating Sri Lanka to claim the Asia Cup. The victory, achieved by a margin of 72 runs in Dubai on Sunday, marked the nation’s record eighth title in the tournament.
The protest mirrored a similar incident from the previous year involving the men’s team. At that time, Indian players also refused to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who holds the dual roles of being the chief of the Asian Cricket Council and Pakistan’s interior minister.
By declining to participate in the presentation, the female athletes followed the precedent set by their male counterparts, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic friction between the two neighboring nations that frequently spills over into sporting events.
