Hurricane Isaias is closing in on the Gulf coast, intensifying into a Category 3 storm that is expected to make landfall tonight. The Florida panhandle remains directly in the hurricane’s path, prompting authorities to issue dire warnings regarding life-threatening storm surges and hurricane-force winds across parts of Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis commended the extensive mobilization of emergency responders, including National Guard troops, search and rescue teams, utility workers, and state troopers. He emphasized that these resources are being deployed to ensure a rapid recovery regardless of the damage inflicted by the storm.
DeSantis cautioned residents that weather conditions would deteriorate rapidly over the next 24 to 36 hours. He confirmed that emergency shelters remain open for individuals who have not yet evacuated, urging those in harm’s way to seek safety immediately.
Governor’s right about rapid deterioration. I’ve got generators charged and water ready. Better safe than sorry.
Did anyone else notice how fast it intensified? The models didn’t predict this upgrade this early.
Category 3 is no joke. My family in Panama City is hunkering down. Hope the shelters are stocked.
Sending prayers to everyone in the path. Stay safe and stay off the roads please!
