Luke Humphries concluded a significant 16-month wait for a PDC major title by securing a dramatic 6-4 win against Gerwyn Price at the World Grand Prix final. The 31-year-old, currently ranked number two, demonstrated resilience after falling behind early to claim the championship in Leicester.
Two years ago, Humphries stood at the summit of the sport, but his dominance has recently been challenged by rising star Luke Littler. His last major success came at the Premier League in May 2025, and his most recent ranking title was the Masters in February of last year. This latest victory marks his second World Grand Prix triumph, adding to his success in 2023 that originally propelled him to the top of the world rankings.
The match saw Humphries, the second seed, trail Price 3-0 before he rallied to win four consecutive sets. Although Price leveled the contest, Humphries broke serve in the deciding leg of the fifth set and then took three straight legs to seal the win. The victory ensures he retains his number two ranking ahead of Netherlands’ Gian van Veen.
For Price, the defeat extends a painful drought that has now lasted four years without a major PDC title. It also marks his fifth consecutive major final loss, including three defeats in 2026 alone. Humphries collected £150,000 in prize money for the victory.
Humphries needs to stop winning and let Littler have some fun. The young gun deserves a trophy too!
Four years without a major is brutal for Price. Five consecutive final losses really paints a picture.
Great final to watch here in Leicester! Proud of the hometown hero for getting over the line.
Another runner-up finish for Price. Has he lost his nerve in big finals lately?
What a turnaround from 3-0 down! Humphries showed exactly why he’s ranked number two.
