Huawei Mate XT 2 Introduces Privacy Display with Samsung-Inspired Design

Huawei has launched the Mate XT 2, its latest trifold smartphone in China, revealing clear design similarities to Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold. The device features an inward-folding form factor and marks a significant milestone as the first foldable phone to incorporate a privacy-enhancing display, a technology previously introduced on Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra.

This release follows the original Mate XT, which debuted in China in late 2024 and rolled out internationally several months later. The initial model utilized an accordion-style folding mechanism that eliminated the need for a separate cover screen but left portions of the fragile folding display permanently exposed.

  1. The accordion style was always too risky for me. This new design feels much more robust and safer for daily use.

  2. Skeptical about durability again. Exposed screens are a nightmare waiting to happen. Hope the hinge is sturdy this time.

  3. Wait, is that inward fold actually inspired by Samsung? It looks identical. Just curious about the design lineage here.
