Positioned as a competitive response to Valve’s SteamOS, this feature transforms the desktop into a controller-friendly, full-screen interface centered around a redesigned Xbox app. Since its rollout began in May, Xbox mode has become available to Windows 11 users who keep their systems updated, offering a streamlined way to access game libraries without navigating the traditional desktop.
To begin using the feature, ensure a compatible gamepad—such as an Xbox, PC, or PlayStation controller—is connected. Additionally, opening your preferred digital storefront beforehand can expedite the process. Access the settings by pressing **Win + I**, then navigate to **Gaming** and select **Xbox mode**. Here, toggle on **Enable Xbox mode** and ensure the **Choose home app** option is set to **Xbox**. For faster access, consider enabling **Show Xbox mode in Task View** and **Enter Xbox mode on startup** if you plan to use the feature exclusively.
Users can enter Xbox mode through several methods: the **Win + F11** shortcut toggles between the desktop and the new interface, while **Win + G** opens the Game Bar, where you can select **Enter Xbox mode** via the settings gear.
