In May, Apple committed to paying $250 million to resolve a class-action lawsuit alleging the company exaggerated the capabilities of its Apple Intelligence tools, particularly the long-delayed update to Siri. While the updated Siri AI assistant is now accessible on newer iPhones running iOS 27, customers who purchased eligible devices during a specific window may still be entitled to financial compensation.
The settlement applies to US residents who bought select iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 models from Apple between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. Qualifying individuals could receive up to $95 for each eligible phone. The legal action centered on Apple’s marketing of Siri features to drive iPhone sales, with plaintiffs arguing they did not receive the advertised Apple Intelligence capabilities. In accepting the settlement, Apple denies any wrongdoing, stating in May that it resolved the matter to continue focusing on innovation and delivering products to users.
Those wishing to file a claim must visit smartphoneaisettlement.com and select the blue “File A Claim” button located in the top-right corner. Although the site asks if you possess a Claim ID and PIN, this information is not mandatory. The final step requires either your iPhone’s serial number or your Apple Account ID. To locate the serial number, users can open the Settings app, navigate to General, and select About; the identifier will appear near the top of the screen.
Claimants can choose to receive their settlement funds via PayPal, Venmo, electronic bank transfer, or a paper check. If an individual owns multiple eligible devices, they must submit a separate claim form for each one. iPhone owners have until December 21 to submit their applications.
