Hombale Films Details Global Strategy Behind ‘Hanuman Ansh’ International Success

Hombale Films, the production house behind blockbuster franchises such as “K.G.F” and “Kantara,” has outlined the specific international distribution strategy that propelled the Indian devotional film “Hanuman Ansh” to gross more than $3.5 million outside of India. The company adopted a model of retaining ownership of all global territories while partnering with major local distributors to maximize release footprint.

Chaluve Gowda, producer at Hombale Films, emphasized that the approach was data-driven, leveraging insights from previous releases like the animated feature “Mahavatar Narsimha.” This targeted strategy allowed the team to identify optimal locations and cinema chains, resulting in significant overseas revenue. The film officially launched internationally on September 11.

Gowda described the project as a milestone for the Bengaluru-based banner, noting that “Hanuman Ansh” is the first non-Hombale production they have fully distributed on an international scale. He expressed strong conviction in the project, stating it aligns perfectly with their vision of taking Indian narratives to a global audience.

The film’s script and direction were handled by Vishal Chaturvedi, adapted from his book “Divine Detour: That Changed My Life.” The narrative tracks the journey of Lakshman Das, who, after the death of his mother, embarks on a spiritual quest that eventually leads him to become the revered saint Neem Karoli Baba, also known as Maharaj-ji. Shobhinaw Satyaa portrays the adult title role, with Vihaan Shedge playing the teenage version, alongside Chandan Anand, Anil Rastogi, and Purnima Tiwari in supporting parts. Chaturvedi produced the film through his Swambhu Media Network banner, working alongside producers Ragini Sona, Namrata G. Singh, and Anupriya A. Nagar.

North America remains the top contributor to the overseas tally, with $1.8 million generated from the United States and Canada. Australia and New Zealand added $606,716, followed by the Gulf Cooperation Council region with $577,870. The United Kingdom contributed $269,837, while Singapore and Europe brought in $61,334 and $41,171 respectively. The remainder of the world accounted for $483,006.

Domestically, the low-budget film has been a remarkable sleeper hit. Produced for approximately INR 2 crore ($209,000), “Hanuman Ansh” premiered in India on August 7 across roughly 250 screens via Cinépolis India. Strong word-of-mouth drove the expansion to over 2,000 screens, and the film has since amassed INR 340.7 crore ($35.5 million) in seven weeks.

Chaturvedi has structured the film as the inaugural installment of a trilogy. Gowda reaffirmed Hombale’s commitment to supporting creators who pursue ambitious visions, stating they will continue to champion grand stories told with heartfelt dedication.
