Hampshire Mother Campaigns for Recognition After Medically Advised Termination

Rosanna Brown, a mother from Hampshire, is urging the public and medical professionals to raise awareness about terminations for medical reasons (TFMR) following the loss of her son, William, in 2023. Brown was advised to end her pregnancy because William had been diagnosed with Chaos syndrome, a rare and life-threatening condition that posed a risk to both the baby and her own health.

Despite the medical necessity of the decision, Brown described the experience as isolating, noting a significant lack of training and support surrounding medically advised abortions. She explained that many parents opt to describe these losses as miscarriages to avoid being drawn into the polarized pro-life and pro-choice debates. This secrecy, she said, often leaves individuals feeling that their grief is not legitimate because a choice was made.

  1. It is sad that parents feel forced to hide these losses just to avoid controversy. Grief should never be policed.

  2. The word ‘choice’ makes some people uncomfortable, but framing it as medical necessity seems like the only way to get real funding.

  3. I had no idea ‘TFMR’ was a recognized term. This campaign feels long overdue for proper medical recognition and support.

  4. Does the NHS currently provide dedicated counseling pathways for TFMR, or is Rosanna’s experience still the norm nationwide?

  5. Thank you for sharing this. It is heartbreaking that TFMR grief is often invalidated by politics instead of compassion.
