Following nearly twelve months of intense negotiation, David Ellison has successfully finalized his landmark consolidation of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery. On Monday, the Silicon Valley heir announced that a coalition of state attorneys general has reached a settlement regarding the merger, effectively resolving the primary antitrust lawsuit that sought to block the deal.
The proposed merger faced fierce resistance from activist organizations, high-profile talent such as Mark Ruffalo, and competitors within the legacy media sector. However, labor unions representing Hollywood workers have largely welcomed the resolution, noting that the legal standoff had created a climate of stagnation, halting development and spending across both studios.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) acknowledged that its own legal challenge against the
Mark Ruffalo better be upset on our behalf. This isn’t good for competition.
