Google has initiated an early preview of its “Call For Me” capability, an AI-driven tool that enables the Gemini chatbot to manage telephone conversations on behalf of users. This expansion builds upon the company’s existing “Hold for Me” feature, which has supported Pixel smartphones for several generations, by extending assistance beyond wait times to handling entire calls for routine business tasks.
The feature is currently available to paid Gemini subscribers who own a Pixel 11 and are enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta program in the United States. Through the Gemini app, users can instruct the AI to place calls to businesses such as hardware stores to check inventory, reschedule appointments like haircuts, or make dining reservations. During these interactions, the AI navigates phone menus and manages hold periods autonomously.
According to Google, the system is designed to handle moderately complex inquiries while keeping the user informed. A live transcript of the conversation is displayed in real time within the app. “You remain in control at all times with a live transcript view and the ability to take over the conversation at any point,” the company stated.
