The German government announced Friday that it will reduce taxes on gasoline and diesel by approximately 17 cents per litre, starting in October. The decision is intended to provide temporary relief for drivers as fuel prices have surged past the €2-a-litre mark.
The move comes amid mounting pressure on Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as skyrocketing energy costs add to the economic challenges facing the administration.
