French Woman Rescues Elephants from Abusive Owners in Laos

Laos, historically celebrated as ‘The Land of a Million Elephants,’ now faces a severe decline in its elephant population, with estimates suggesting only around 800 individuals remain. Threats such as deforestation and widespread exploitation have pushed the species perilously close to extinction.

Amidst this crisis, a French woman has dedicated herself to providing a sanctuary for aging elephants. She is actively purchasing these animals from owners known for abusive treatment, offering them a new home and a chance at survival.

  1. Deforestation is such a huge factor here. Saving the elephants and restoring their habitat have to go hand in hand.

  2. Is the government doing anything to stop the abuse, or is this woman the only one stepping up right now?

  3. This story actually made me cry. Such a sad reality for wildlife, but her dedication is truly inspiring to witness.

  4. How can she afford to buy so many? Donations must be critical for her sanctuary to keep running long-term.

  5. It is heartbreaking to think Laos once had a million elephants. We need more people like her saving these gentle giants.
