Protests and blockades at schools across France have resumed, with high school students continuing their campaign for increased education funding and improved conditions. The demonstrations took place one day after Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu directed ministers to develop an action plan addressing the students’ grievances.
Reporting from Paris, Al Jazeera’s Natacha Butler noted that university students and additional trade unions have joined the nationwide movement. A large rally is anticipated in the capital on Thursday. “They are moving around, trying to block off the streets,” Butler observed from outside one school where university students were barricading a large area. She added that these participants are out “in solidarity with high school students because they say it’s important that as many young people join in the protests as possible.”
Thursday’s rally in Paris could be huge. Will the turnout match the disruption they’re causing now?
I support the students, but joining forces with unions changes the dynamic. This isn’t just about schools anymore.
Does anyone else think this is just political theater? An action plan promised yesterday won’t fix crumbling infrastructure by tomorrow.
Wait, are these high schoolers or rioters? Barricading streets sounds dangerous, not protest-worthy.
At least the government is finally listening. Hopefully, this action plan translates into real funding for our schools.
