On Friday, the editorial committees of 39 French media organizations, among them FRANCE 24 and RFI, published a unified declaration criticizing National Rally leader and presidential candidate Marine Le Pen. The statement addressed her recent remarks directed at the investigative journal Médiapart, which she described as being akin to wearing a “Kevlar suit.”
The collective denounced these comments as violent attempts to intimidate the press. The outlets characterized the actions as particularly alarming for the right to information, asserting that such freedoms are fundamental entitlements expected by citizens in a democratic society.
Does calling it intimidation really change anything? Or is this just more performance?
I had no idea 39 organizations联合ed. That’s a massive show of force against political pressure.
This shows the media is finally pushing back. Good to see solidarity among outlets.
