Four individuals have lost their lives and a fifth was transported to the hospital after a severe house fire broke out in Bootle, Merseyside. The emergency services were alerted to the incident at a semi-detached property on Stone Square in Sefton at 03:45 BST.
Upon arrival, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service found the building fully engulfed in flames. Eight firefighters entered the structure to conduct search and rescue operations amid what the service described as an intense and rapidly spreading fire. Six fire engines were deployed at the peak of the blaze.
The main fire has since been extinguished, and crews remain on site damping down the area. Two engines are still present as recovery efforts continue.
Merseyside Police have cordoned off the street and launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Officers also conducted door-to-door inquiries in neighboring properties earlier in the morning.
Local residents reported being awakened by the commotion. One neighbor stated they initially heard shouting and assumed it was an argument, only to realize the severity of the situation upon seeing multiple fire engines. Another resident described seeing smoke rising from the affected houses as the community gathered outside.
Eight firefighters went in and six engines were there. What caused it? Hopefully, the investigation brings some answers soon.
