Former Bush Chief of Staff Recalls Delivering 9/11 News in Florida Classroom

On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card revisited the Emma E. Booker Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida, the site where he delivered the devastating news to President George W. Bush.

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, Card entered the classroom where the president was visiting children and read a brief from an aide. He then told Bush, “Madam Vice President, a second plane has hit the World Trade Center. America is under attack.”

CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett spoke with Card about that pivotal moment and the quarter-century that has followed, reflecting on how the events of that day altered the course of history.
