A former Ohio music pastor and television personality who appeared on American Idol has been convicted of murdering his wife. Caleb Flynn, 40, was found guilty on Tuesday of aggravated murder and tampering with evidence for the killing of his wife, Ashley Flynn.
The jury deliberated for less than three hours before reaching its verdict. Flynn faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors allege that Flynn fatally shot Ashley, 37, twice in the back of the head while she was sleeping in their bed at their home in Tipp City on February 16. He subsequently attempted to convince investigators that intruders had committed the crime.
The trial, which featured eight days of testimony, centered heavily on text messages exchanged between Flynn and his former mistress, Alleigha Botner. Prosecutors introduced evidence showing that Flynn had planned the murder and expressed intense hostility toward his wife.
“I was up until 4am last night crying, literally thinking of ways to kill her and not go to jail,” Flynn wrote to Botner in August 2025. In another message, he stated, “I just want her dead and gone.”
