Andrew Bailey, who served as the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s co-Deputy Director, announced his resignation on social media on September 28, 2026. In his statement, Bailey said he was stepping down to spend more time with his family in Missouri, expressing confidence that FBI Director Kash Patel would continue reforms aimed at combating violent crime and restoring public trust in the agency.
Bailey, who previously served as the Attorney General of Missouri, held a position that was described by sources as being ill-defined and unprecedented in the bureau’s history. He served alongside former Secret Service agent and podcaster Dan Bongino, who resigned from his deputy role earlier this year, and subsequently worked with Christopher Raia. It remains unclear whether Raia will now serve as the sole No. 2 at the FBI following Bailey’s departure.
During his tenure, Bailey played a key role in election integrity investigations, including participating in the raid on the Fulton County, Georgia, election office where documents related to the 2020 election were seized. Prior to joining the FBI, Bailey led various legal efforts in Missouri, including a consent decree restricting social media censorship and lawsuits against the previous administration regarding immigration and transgender athlete policies. Director Patel thanked Bailey for his dedicated service in contributing to the agency’s mission.
