EU De-Risking from Russian Energy Stalls, Auditors Warn

The European Union’s efforts to decouple its energy sector from Russian supply are showing signs of significant stagnation, according to a warning issued by EU auditors on Tuesday. The European Court of Auditors released a report indicating that the bloc’s strategic roadmap for energy independence is not on track to meet its objectives.

The findings highlight growing concerns within Brussels regarding the pace of implementation for policies designed to shield member states from Moscow’s energy leverage, a priority that intensified following the onset of the war in Ukraine. Auditors pointed out that while political commitments remain strong, concrete measures and infrastructure developments are proceeding more slowly than planned.
