At least two individuals lost their lives and a significant oil refinery sustained damage during hundreds of drone strikes on Moscow and its surrounding areas on Sunday. The attacks occurred on the final day of Russia’s parliamentary elections, prompting authorities to blame Ukraine for attempting to disrupt the polling process.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that air defenses intercepted and shot down more than 1,600 drones in total. Of those aerial targets, approximately 450 were directed specifically at the capital city.
Intercepting over 1,600 drones is a massive undertaking. How does a city defend against swarms this large? The technology is scary.
It is terrifying that such chaos unfolded right in the capital on election day. Safety should never be compromised like this.
