Documentary Chronicles Kenyans’ Legal Battle for Ancestral Land Stolen in Colonial Era

Documentary Chronicles Kenyans’ Legal Battle for Ancestral Land Stolen in Colonial Era

A new documentary highlights the persistent efforts of Kenyan communities to reclaim ancestral lands that were seized during the British colonial era and are currently held by multinational tea corporations. For colonial settlers, the fertile, cool uplands of central Kenya were designated as the “White Highlands,” a zone exclusively reserved for Europeans. Indigenous populations were forcibly removed from these areas, which were subsequently converted into large-scale plantations for tea and other agricultural products.

In recent decades, the descendants of those displaced have mounted campaigns to recover their heritage land, much of which has passed into the hands of major international companies and other large corporate entities.

  2. My grandmother used to tell stories about the White Highlands. It’s about time these legal battles receive global attention and support.

  3. This documentary sounds incredibly important. The historical injustice is hard to comprehend, but seeing their persistence today is truly inspiring.
