The map, posted without explanatory context, appeared to absorb Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Iceland, Cuba, and several Caribbean nations into a single entity labeled “United States of America.”
The post immediately triggered sharp rebukes from affected governments. Iceland summoned its ambassador to Washington for consultations, while Mexico reiterated its full sovereignty and rejected the depiction. Denmark, which holds sovereignty over Greenland, also pushed back against the imagery.
Beyond the official protests, the image drew widespread ridicule on social media. Critics seized on the map as evidence of erratic leadership, with many questioning Trump’s fitness for office and his grasp of basic geopolitics.
This looks like a video game mod, not serious policy. I worry about what happens when someone actually believes this fantasy.
