The indie game landscape continues to surge with diverse releases and events as September draws to a close. This week’s roundup highlights the long-awaited launch of Remedy Entertainment’s Control Resonant, alongside a flurry of creative new titles and significant industry gatherings.

Industry Events and Expos

Several notable events are currently underway, offering developers and players alike a chance to showcase and experience fresh content. The Game Devs of Color expo recently featured a showcase highlighting over 60 games from around the world. Meanwhile, Steam is hosting the Mexican Entertainment System event, presenting more than 300 titles from over 200 Mexican studios, and Serbian Games Week, which includes over 200 games. Both Steam events conclude on September 28.

Additionally, the Out Of The Box Games curator event on Steam is spotlighting 130 titles known for bold ideas, unconventional storytelling, and distinctive mechanics. For developers looking for exposure, submissions for Day of the Devs are now open, with the next showcase scheduled for December 9, just before The Game Awards. The deadline to submit is September 28.

New Indie Game Releases

Control Resonant

Although it carries a significantly larger budget than typical indie features, Remedy Entertainment’s Control Resonant is categorized as an indie release due to the studio’s independent status. Priced at $60, the game is available on Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, with Mac versions arriving later this year via Steam and the App Store.

Set five years after initial rumors of a sequel surfaced, Control Resonant shifts the narrative focus from Jesse Faden to her brother, Dylan. The game expands the series’ scope into an open-world environment and replaces the iconic Service Weapon with melee combat mechanics. Early reviews have been generally positive, though some critics noted that combat may become repetitive. Players can adjust difficulty by enabling invincibility or one-hit kill options.

Stick It to the Stickman

Published by Devolver Digital, this satirical anti-capitalist roguelite brawler allows players to climb the corporate ladder by defeating CEOs and taking their place. The game features fast-paced runs where players battle coworkers using unconventional weapons like staple guns and projectile coffee mugs. It launched in early access on Steam for approximately $12, currently discounted by 50 percent until October 1.

Doggy Don’t Care

For fans of chaotic pet simulations, Doggy Don’t Care lets players control Charlie, a troublemaking pup left home alone. The adventure game involves completing mischievous tasks to earn badges and impress friends. Developed by Rohan Nowell and published by Rotub Games, it is available on Steam for $15, with a 10 percent discount running until October 8.
