Cole Palmer is set to miss England’s upcoming Nations League matches after withdrawing from the squad due to a muscle injury. The 24-year-old was included in Thomas Tuchel’s roster for the fixtures against Spain, the Czech Republic, and Croatia.
Palmer had been omitted from Tuchel’s World Cup squad earlier this summer but has since rebuilt his standing with the national team. He played the full 90 minutes in Chelsea’s recent Premier League defeat to Brentford, continuing a resurgence in his performances since being recalled.
Since overcoming previous fitness concerns, Palmer has enjoyed a productive run for Chelsea, netting four goals and providing two assists across seven appearances this season. His return to form contrasts with a difficult previous campaign marred by injury problems.
Speaking to Sky Sports prior to the new campaign, Palmer expressed confidence in his physical condition. “Physically I feel good, probably the best I’ve felt in ages, but I think I can get fitter with games and more minutes,” he said.
Palmer also reflected on his injury history, noting that he had rarely been injured before his groin issue. He admitted to feeling pressure to play through pain ahead of the World Cup, describing it as a “sticky situation” where he feared being left out of the squad if he rested. He added that he has since focused daily on preventing further setbacks to ensure he remains fit for both club and country.
Tuchel must be frustrated. Palmer has been in great form for Chelsea lately.
Recurring muscle issues are a nightmare for young attackers. Hope he stays fit for the rest of the season.
Wait, did he play the full 90 minutes against Brentford recently? Seems odd to withdraw suddenly.
Really disappointing news. Chelsea fans will be gutted losing him for these关键 games too.
