Carty camp demands DQ after bizarre ring fall in Taylor undercard clash

Mike Ofo, manager for Thomas Carty, has called for the disqualification of David Allen following a controversial finish to their bout at Croke Park. The fight, staged on the undercard of Katie Taylor’s farewell appearance, was ruled a no-contest after Carty tumbled out of the ring in the opening round.

Ofo asserts that Allen deliberately fouled Carty twice in quick succession. According to the manager, the second illegal blow—a rabbit punch to the back of the head—knocked the Irishman cleanly through the ropes and onto his head and shoulder on the arena floor.

“What happened was plain for all to see with Allen blatantly fouling him twice,” Ofo told Sky Sports. “The second illegal rabbit punch knocked him clean through the ropes, and there is only one outcome under the rules of boxing in those circumstances—a DQ loss for Allen.”

Carty, 30, appeared visibly shaken by the interruption of what Ofo described as the “crowning achievement” of his career thus far. The fighter had been performing well, landing a punishing jab that marked Allen’s face, before the incident occurred.

Allen attempted to justify the strike in a post-fight YouTube video, claiming he aimed for Carty’s ear but that the boxer turned his head into the blow. “I’m not aiming for the back of anyone’s head… he’s turned into it, and he’s gone through the ropes,” Allen said. He added that he immediately questioned the referee regarding a count, stating, “If that was in the middle of the ring, I’d have won by stoppage.”

Ofo dismissed Allen’s explanation as an attempt to rewrite history. “I see he is already busy trying to set a narrative, but that is gaslighting,” the manager said. He expressed confidence that Carty would have secured a stoppage victory in later rounds, criticizing Allen’s physical condition. “Frankly, he should change his nickname from ‘The White Rhino’ to ‘The White Hippo.'”

The loss marks another setback for Carty, who suffered a freak knee injury last year to record his only professional defeat. Despite the abrupt ending, the camp hopes for a rematch once the British Boxing Union (BUI) reviews the referee’s decision. Ofo confirmed they are prepared to grant Allen a rematch to settle the contest properly inside the ring.
