BBC News presenter Maryam Moshiri has provided a detailed update on her two-year journey living with cancer, explaining how the chronic condition will impact her future.
Moshiri received a diagnosis of polycythaemia vera (PV) in November 2024. PV is classified as a rare but treatable blood cancer. While medical experts note that the disease cannot be cured, it can be effectively managed over the long term.
In a conversation with colleague Lucy Hockings, Moshiri reflected on her emotional state following the diagnosis. She expressed gratitude that her general practitioner identified the illness at an early stage, which she credits for her current positive outlook.
Moshiri emphasized that despite the chronic nature of her diagnosis, she does not view it as a terminal sentence, stating confidently, “I have chronic cancer but I’m not going to die.”
