Viewers tuning into BBC Four at 10pm tonight will be treated to a compelling documentary examining the life and legal battles of journalist and advice columnist E Jean Carroll.
The program investigates the motivations behind Carroll’s decision to pursue legal action against Donald Trump. “Because he called me a liar and I couldn’t let it stand,” Carroll explained regarding her choice to sue the former US president.
The documentary traces Carroll’s significant media career before detailing her two separate civil suits against Trump—one filed in 2019 and another in 2022. Both cases, which involved allegations of sexual abuse and defamation, resulted in victories for Carroll.
The broadcast also commemorates John Simpson’s 60-year anniversary with the BBC, highlighting his enduring legacy in journalism.
Sixty years for Simpson and Carroll’s legal wins are both notable. Does the doc give equal time to both stories?
Wait, so this is airing on BBC Four? I had no idea they were covering American defamation cases like this.
It is impressive that a BBC documentary would cover this in such detail. Carroll really stood her ground.
