Avanti West Coast is set to revert to public ownership starting in March, following a decisive move by Prime Minister Andy Burnham to address persistent failures in the rail network. The operator, which services the route connecting London to Birmingham, the north-west, and Glasgow, has recorded the highest volume of cancellations across the entire network.
Mr Burnham stated that it is time to end the cycle of disruption for passengers who have endured repeated service failures. As one of the country’s least reliable train operators, Avanti West Coast will come under state control when its current contract expires next spring.
