TUCSON, Ariz. — Law enforcement agencies are examining the possibility of an additional ransom note connected to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, marking a development nearly eight months after the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie vanished from her home outside Tucson. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday that both the FBI Guthrie Task Force and local authorities had recently become aware of the potential note, along with related social media activity.
Officials stated that investigators are currently working to assess the credibility of the new evidence but did not provide specific details regarding how the note was discovered or its contents.
This inquiry follows the release of two ransom notes in July, which were initially sent to a local television station in early February. The first message, dated Feb. 2, claimed Guthrie was safe and would be returned unharmed upon receipt of $4 million in cryptocurrency. A subsequent note sent on Feb. 6 asserted that Guthrie had died shortly after being abducted. Authorities have not confirmed whether Guthrie is still alive.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case. The investigation continues to face significant challenges, including unanswered questions about the number of individuals involved in the abduction and whether the suspect was an acquaintance of Guthrie.
Prior to this latest development, the FBI had released surveillance footage showing a masked individual allegedly tampering with a camera on Guthrie’s front porch and obstructing the view with a plant. Throughout the ordeal, Guthrie’s family has utilized social media to post videos pleading for information from the public.
