Authorities in Bali have launched an investigation after the bodies of an Australian father and his two children were discovered inside a villa in the popular tourist district of Kuta. The victims have been identified as Damien John Shaw, 56, a resident of Fremantle, Western Australia, and his two young children, aged six and four.
The discovery was made on Sunday following concerns raised by Shaw’s wife, who was not present in Indonesia at the time. According to police reports, she had spoken with her husband earlier but grew worried after hearing one of her children crying during the call. When she attempted to reach him again later and received no response, she contacted a neighbor for assistance.
The neighbor, along with other local residents, forced entry into the property after receiving no answer to repeated knocks. Inside, they found the three family members deceased.
While some Australian media outlets have reported that police are treating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide, officials in Bali have stated that the cause and manner of death have not yet been officially determined. Further forensic examinations are planned to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
