Argentina Moves to File Criminal Charges Against Navitas Petroleum Over Falklands Drilling

The Argentine government confirmed on Monday that it will pursue criminal charges against the Israeli energy company Navitas Petroleum, alongside its top executives, for conducting drilling activities in the Falkland Islands.

The legal action comes shortly after President Javier Milei vowed on Friday to impose sanctions on oil companies operating in the British overseas territory. His statements marked an escalation in Argentina’s push for sovereignty over the islands, which lie off the coast of South America.

The announcement follows speculation that former US President Donald Trump is currently reviewing the UK’s sovereignty claims regarding the archipelago, adding further complexity to the long-standing territorial dispute.
