Arc Raiders and The Finals are both getting TV and film adaptations

We don't have too many details just yet.

The era of video game adaptations continues. Chernin Entertainment just inked a deal to adapt both _Arc Raiders_ and _The Finals_ as TV and film projects, [according to a report by V _ariety_](https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/arc-raiders-the-finals-tv-series-movies-chernin-1236899094/). Embark Studios, who published both games, will also be involved in some capacity.

We don't have any actual details here, other than some corporate press releases that boast about "the next big step in growing" both franchises and how this will offer "integrated transmedia experiences." The president of Chernin did say that these are "ambitious global IPs with the potential to become major franchises across film and television." It sounds like the company is proposing a couple of shared cinematic universes, but that's conjecture on my part.

These titles aren't exactly known for their narrative experiences. _Arc Raiders_ is a fun [third-person extraction shooter](https://www.engadget.com/gaming/arc-raiders-replaced-some-of-its-ai-generated-voice-lines-with-professional-actors-184915627.html) and _The Finals_ is a free-to-play FPS set inside of a game show. This means that the filmmakers can pretty much do whatever they want, so long as the world-building remains intact.

Chernin does have a nice pedigree for this type of thing, especially in recent years. It helped produce _Backrooms_ for theaters and _The Madness_ for Netflix. Past releases include _The Last House_, _Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes_ and the _Fear Street_ trilogy, among many others.

This is just the latest adaptation of a video game. _Helldivers_[is getting a movie](https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/the-helldivers-movie-will-star-jason-momoa-and-hits-theaters-on-november-10-2027-183445038.html) next year, [followed by _Elden Ring_](https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/the-elden-ring-movie-hits-theaters-on-march-3-2028-154411670.html) and [_Call of Duty_ in 2028](https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/call-of-duty-movie-arrives-on-june-30-2028-200033481.html). We also [aren't too far from that](https://www.engadget.com/2172782/were-going-to-be-watching-the-legend-of-zelda-movie-sooner-than-expected/) long-anticipated _The Legend of Zelda_ film.
