Apple has inaugurated Apple Music Hall, a purpose-built performance space located at its United Kingdom headquarters at Battersea Power Station in London. Designed specifically for Apple Music Live productions, the venue accommodates up to 600 guests in a configuration that blends standing and seated areas.
The facility incorporates cutting-edge technology, including a 48-speaker Spatial Audio system supporting Dolby Atmos, 16 distinct camera positions, and dedicated recording studios capable of capturing multitrack audio. According to Apple, these resources allow performances to be recorded and mixed in Spatial Audio either in real time or post-production.
The interior aesthetic draws inspiration from the historic Battersea Power Station, featuring heritage brickwork, fluted arches, and bronze balconies. A large glass wall separates the audience from the backstage area, while the 38-foot stage is modular, allowing for traditional front-facing setups or in-the-round arrangements.
Oliver Schusser, Apple’s VP of Apple Music and International Content, emphasized the company’s dedication to the music community. “Today, with the opening of Apple Music Hall, we are once again taking an unprecedented step further in our commitment to artists and fans by supporting live music in ways only Apple can do,” he said.
Beyond physical attendance, the venue is equipped to reach global audiences through live streaming infrastructure. This includes a broadcast control room with capabilities for iPhone video capture alongside professional camera systems. Additionally, performers have access to high-end dressing rooms overlooking the site’s shopping and dining amenities.
Schusser highlighted the venue’s appeal to emerging musicians, noting that it provides a complete, plug-and-play environment. “It’s important for us to help and provide smaller artists with a smaller space, that has state-of-the-art technology,” he told Wallpaper. “You can come in, do an interview…, get your photography and social media done, play a show, broadcast worldwide, and get a high-quality Spatial Audio recording out of it.”
I’m skeptical about the streaming quality. Will it feel like a genuine live event, or just another polished, sterile broadcast?
