Apple is reportedly preparing for one of its most significant hardware events of the year, with plans to introduce its first touchscreen laptop alongside a redesigned iPad Mini. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company is targeting October 27 for the announcement, marking the most concrete timeline yet for the highly anticipated device.
Rumors surrounding a touchscreen-enabled MacBook have circulated since 2023. Recent reports suggest the device, potentially branded as the MacBook Ultra, will feature a dynamic interface that adjusts based on the input method being used. Under the hood, it is expected to utilize the same M5 Pro and M5 Max chips found in current high-end MacBook Pro models, rather than waiting for the upcoming M6 series.
In addition to the laptop, the October event is expected to showcase a new iPad Mini equipped with an OLED display. Bloomberg’s anonymous sources also indicated that Apple will roll out smaller updates to the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac, upgrading them to the M6 chip recently introduced in the Mac mini refresh.
This potential October 27 launch follows a busy period for Apple hardware. The company already made headlines this summer with the debut of its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. Furthermore, Apple has scheduled a separate event for October 13 to unveil a new lineup of smart home devices, adding to a packed calendar of product reveals for the season.
Honestly, an OLED iPad Mini is what I actually need. The MacBook Ultra feels like a gimmick solution to a problem we didn’t know we had.
Touchscreen Mac? I’ve been waiting for this since 2023. Finally, Apple listens to the critics who hated trackpads alone.
