Apple Developing First-Party iPhone Game Controllers Under Beats Brand, Report Says

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is in the process of developing two distinct game controllers designed specifically for the iPhone. The company is expected to market these peripherals under its Beats subsidiary, marking a significant expansion into dedicated gaming hardware.

The rumor mill surrounding Apple’s entry into the game controller space has been active for quite some time. However, fresh evidence emerged last week when MacRumors identified two references within the code for macOS 26.7. These references point to two first-party game controllers, suggesting the devices are already in the development pipeline.

Although the relevant code was discovered in the macOS operating system rather than iOS, Gurman maintains that the hardware is intended for iPhone users. He further notes that executives from the Beats division are spearheading the project.

This strategic move aligns with Apple’s historical approach of utilizing subsidiary brands to experiment with new product categories and establish a foothold in competitive markets.

  1. Another hardware accessory to charge premium prices for? I’ll stick with my third-party alternatives, thanks.
