Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Challenges Search Warrants in Legal Battle Against Thames Valley Police

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has initiated legal proceedings against Thames Valley Police regarding the search warrants issued during his arrest in February. The former prince, who was taken into custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office, is seeking to overturn the legality of the warrants that authorized searches at Sandringham and Royal Lodge.

The legal challenge, reported first by the Telegraph, comes in the wake of information released from the Epstein files in the United States. Mountbatten-Windsor, who lost his royal titles due to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has lodged a judicial review against the chief constable of Thames Valley Police and the Central Criminal Court.

A court hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon to consider the bid to quash the warrants. The proceedings are set to begin in private. The warrants were originally issued by a judge at the Central Criminal Court on 18 February, one day prior to Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest.

Thames Valley Police confirmed they are engaged in ongoing legal proceedings but declined to provide further comment. “As these legal proceedings are currently ongoing, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further,” a spokesperson stated.

Following the arrest, which took place on the individual’s 66th birthday, police were observed searching his property at Marsh Farm in Sandringham and his former residence, Royal Lodge, on the Windsor estate. He was transported to Aylsham police station and later released under investigation. A photograph captured his departure from the station looking exhausted.

Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing in his associations with Epstein. Thames Valley Police confirmed that its investigation remains active.

  1. Released under investigation for so long now with no updates is frustrating. One hopes the legal process moves faster than typical high-profile cases.

  2. The privacy of these proceedings is striking. Given the Epstein connections, keeping everything behind closed doors seems counterproductive to public trust.

  3. A judicial review this quickly? I wonder if the Prince is trying to delay the substantive investigation or truly believes the warrants are invalid.
