While Christopher Nolan’s recent adaptation of The Odyssey successfully captivated audiences and reinvigorated interest in classic literature, a new artificial intelligence-driven version of the epic is drawing sharp criticism for the opposite effect. The film, titled Odysseus: The Fall, is so poorly executed that reviewers suggest it may turn viewers away from the original story entirely.
The production comes from Fountain 0, an AI firm that previously released Dreams of Violets, a short film selected for the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. Odysseus: The Fall was written and directed by Fountain 0 co-founder Ash Koosha, who also provided the likeness for the protagonist and composed the entire musical score.
At two and a half hours in length, the movie has been described as significantly overstretched. With minimal credits and a track record limited to one prior festival entry, the project appears to lack the polish necessary to sustain such an ambitious narrative using current AI generation tools.
Interesting that Koosha composed the score too. Does that make it less an AI film and more a human-curated AI disaster?
Two and a half hours of AI slop? Hard pass. The Odyssey deserves better than this corporate soulless mess.
