Eleven individuals in their late teens were shot over the weekend in Macon, Georgia, during what law enforcement described as a large birthday gathering. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday at Carolyn Crayton Park, approximately 85 miles southeast of Atlanta.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as four 18-year-old males, two 18-year-old females, and five 17-year-old males. Authorities reported that two of the victims—an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy—are in critical condition, while the remaining nine are stable.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis stated that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the party attendees and another group that arrived at the park. The gathering had originally been planned for an Airbnb in Jones County, but the host asked the group to leave, leading them to relocate to the park. Davis noted that several of those present were students from Central High School and Northeast High School.
“I can’t remember the last time we’ve had this many people shot at one time,” Davis told reporters during a news conference. He confirmed that all victims were part of the birthday party and that no arrests have been made yet.
The FBI is assisting with the investigation due to the scale of the incident, though Davis indicated that current evidence points to the shooting being a local matter. The investigation remains ongoing.
School shootings and public gatherings seem to be increasing lately. When will the authorities actually intervene before it gets this bad?
Does anyone actually know what happened? The article mentions an altercation but leaves so much out. I feel like we are missing key details.
My heart breaks for these families. Eleven kids on a birthday night is just heartbreaking and unacceptable.
