Writers Reflect on Past Transgressions and Unsent Apologies

A group of six writers, featuring Olivia Petter, Derek Owusu, and Annie Lord, have come forward to examine their past misdeeds and the remorse they feel over apologies they never made. In a candid reflection, Petter recounts her childhood behavior at school, describing herself not merely as a difficult student but as an “emotional terrorist” who systematically subjected her Year 6 teacher, Ms. Hill, to humiliation and torment.

According to Petter, her actions escalated from practical jokes, such as the use of whoopee cushions, into a calculated pattern of abuse carried out in collusion with a close friend. The contributors collectively explore themes ranging from tormenting young educators to questioning the intentions of supportive foster parents, offering a literary examination of regret and the desire for redemption.
