British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has significantly lowered expectations for the highly anticipated bout against Anthony Joshua, claiming there is now only a one per cent chance the fight will materialize.
The controversial statement came during an interview on his YouTube channel, Furocity, where Fury addressed the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the mega-event. His comments undermine the announcement made just days earlier, on Thursday, which confirmed that the historic all-British clash would proceed at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Friday, December 11.
The confirmation followed months of protracted negotiations intended to stage the biggest fight in British boxing history. However, by Saturday, Fury had publicly suggested that Joshua was attempting to withdraw from the agreement, thereby jeopardizing the super-fight.
When pressed on his channel regarding the likelihood of the matchup occurring, Fury remained unequivocal. “One per cent,” he replied. He argued that it is logically impossible to force a contest when one participant is eager to fight while the other is not.
Fury reflected on his extensive career, noting nearly 40 professional bouts and more than a decade at the top of the sport. He expressed frustration that despite securing victories over numerous champions and titles, the specific rivalry with Joshua has consistently failed to come to fruition whenever the opportunity arises.
